WaterFire Columbus 2011

In July 2005 Barnaby Evans designed a WaterFire installation in Columbus, Ohio, called WaterFire Columbus.
WaterFire Columbus is becoming one of the most exciting art exhibits in Central Ohio. The magnificent array of bonfires was first established in 1994 on the rivers of downtown Providence, Rhode Island. (WaterFire is the award-winning sculpture by Barnaby Evans). In downtown Columbus the flames reflect on the waters of the Scioto River.
WaterFire Columbus has created seven events for the 2011 Burn Season partnering with different performing arts organizations. The board's goal is to expand relationships with additional performing arts groups in Central Ohio.
The event expanded from 19 braziers in 2008 to 37 for the 2010 Season and The Scioto River will be aglow again with the cityscape in the background. WaterFire Columbus is a unique artistic event during which the river will be illuminated with over 55 floating fires this year.. WaterFire also gives viewers the opportunity to purchase private tables where individuals have the choice of sitting down and enjoying dinner along the river during select events.
It is the community that helps further the growth and development of WaterFire Columbus and without their help the event could not expand as quickly. Community members who purchase braziers become a part of the Brazier Society. Being a member of the Brazier Society includes a variety of benefits such as: a spot at the VIP area during burns, signage recognition, program recognition, stage announcements, a ceremonial boat ride, VIP tickets (four per lighting) and recognition in select news releases.
The incredible display of dozens of blazing fires burning just above the surface of the Scioto River makes WaterFire a one-of-a-kind experience.
WaterFire opens all of our senses to our surroundings; it allows viewers to savor the artwork's surprises, view the city's landscape and mingle with fellow citizens. As part of the new festival via Columbus, WaterFire begins at dusk and is a one-of-a-kind experience creating an opportunity for everyone to enjoy an evening out with the arts. A unique spectacle, bringing together friends to enjoy music, bonfires and riverfront entertainment downtown.

Audience members gather for an evening of natural art, music and activity featuring this remarkable display on the east side of COSI in front of Genoa Park. Amphitheater seating opened at 6:30 p.m., performances began at 7:30, and the fires were lit at 8:30, with the event concluding at 10:30 p.m.
