On Friday, December 2nd starting at 6pm Downtown Columbus were at the heart of the Christmas season once more when Columbus Commons, The Lazarus Building and the entire Scioto Mile from Broad Street to Bicentennial Park, were lit up with almost 200,000 lights in a spectacular urban light display from December 2, 2001 to January 15, 2012.
We joined Mayor Michael B. Coleman for a celebration of the Christmas season and Grand Illumination of Bicentennial Park, the Scioto Mile Promenade, City Hall and Columbus Commons. Enjoyed strolling performers, traditional carols and a special appearance by Santa! In the spirit of giving, support the Empty Bowls project. All proceeds benefit the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. The evening event ended with a holiday lights walking tour led by Mayor Coleman and Santa, departing from Bicentennial Park, strolling along the Promenade, past the Lazarus Building window displays and concluding at Columbus Commons. Hot beverages and holiday sweets were available in Bicentennial Park and Columbus Commons.
